As our way of life is fundamentally disrupted, I want to reassure Australians that freight movements around the country will continue throughout the #COVID19AU pandemic.
Food supplies, medicine & other goods will reach their destination, because freight is an essential service.
A crisis can justify making changes we should have made long ago. There are benefits in letting trucks run off-peak deliveries under normal circumstances.
We're lifting curfew restrictions on trucks across Victoria to increase supermarket stock deliveries.
This may mean a bit more heavy vehicle traffic & noise in some areas.
But I think we can all agree it's a small price to pay to ensure stores are stocked & shelves are full.
A pleasure to have Gabby O'Neill from the National Office of Road Safety, along with key members of the Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics (BITRE), visit ARRB to discuss new performance metrics and data resources for the next Road Safety Strategy.
Are our road and digital infrastructure capable of supporting #driverless vehicles in the looming #5G era? ADVI executive director Rita Excell and ARRB's Anthony Germanchev from the Advanced Technologies Lab discuss the issue on ABC Radio's AM.
