This one is from the paper and I've not tested it, but even Snowflake experts seem to miss this. Queries on variant columns (semi-structured) should be at least 80% as performant as "standard queries".
I've spent a few years as a consultant on a big Snowflake project - our biggest table was 100b rows. Here are a few small and arcane tricks and limitations that very few people know(?) π§΅(accurate as of 2024, idk if those limitations still exist)
The minimum billable period for a warehouse is 1min. And even if your only relation is a stream and it has no data, it will cause a resume. You can however check if a stream has data without consuming cdts with the eponymous system function πΈ

Worked on the laptop for 8 hours today... and barely shipped a single feature. I couldn't tell where it went wrong. That's why I'm building ProPulse β a time tracker that analyzes your cognitive performance to help you work smarter, not harder. I fed my data + feelings into Deep Research and the result was pretty interesting... π§΅
Lesson learned: Take breaks sooner and shorter next time β don't wait until you're wrecked. The goal with ProPulse is to produce those insights at scale. Still some work to get there. Do you nap during workdays? Does it save you or tank your momentum? Drop your experience below! π#Productivity #IndieDev #WorkSmarter
One day of data, but still interesting to have the data back it up... naps might be the ultimate productivity hack. π₯The insight? I saved the day with a short nap, after an afternoon slump. Pre-nap: Sluggish, revising everything, switching apps every 6 mins.
Post-nap: Typing 30% faster, 3x longer focus sessions, way fewer backspaces.
