I have lived in a few places and have seen very different property tax rates. Funny thing is that the place where I paid the highest taxes (Memphis) is also where they had the worst schools.

Actually, we shouldn’t have a minimum wage at all. It was a racist idea during the depression to keep black labor from undercutting the white labor; thereby increasing the black unemployment. It works the same way today.

Why do you want to prohibit anyone not producing a value of $50-$75 per hour from working?

It would be interesting to know how the lifestyle compares for the financial services employees who have transferred from NYC to Dallas or Miami. I know JP Morgan and Goldman has large operations in Dallas and Miami. How does that compare for the employees? Lower salaries, but much lower cost of living? What’s the difference in lifestyle quality for those people?

Counterpoint: my uncle in Sweden had to wait 4 years for a hip replacement. He didn’t have to pay out of pocket for it, but he suffered 4 years in line.

That said, our health care system is an atrocious mess! Fortunately for me, I have stayed out of it. I pay $450/month for health insurance, that I never use. I hope it’s there in case something catastrophic happens. On top of that, I pay $200/month for a doctor to coach me and review my bloodwork to steer me in a healthy direction.

How many emplyed people in Sweden have a housing allowance (bostadsbidrag)? How many retirees are at or below poverty level, even after working their entire lives?

I’m already familiar with both Sweden and the US. I would recommend that you consider taking one of those famously long Swedish vacations and visit the US. Between the beautiful nature and breathtaking national parks and the cities, there’s got to be some places that would peak your interest. You’ll find that the people are friendly and curious about far away visitors. Since you already have friends here, start there and go exploring.

@robprogressive Capital gains cosist of actual value increases and inflation. Often, inflation can be the larger factor. Government is responsible for the inflation. So, the government creates inflation and then taxes you on the gain caused by inflation. What a racket!

He’s spending $57 million to avoid being extorted out of $13.65 billion, I’m surprised he’s not spending more to defeat this destructive tax. Look around the world at countries that have tried wealth taxes. Most of them gave up on it because it encouraged the productive people to leave, and take their companies with them.

A misspent tax dollar is a theft from the taxpayers. Until the taxpayer theft is rooted out in California, the people are not getting full value for their taxes. This reduces the willingness to pay taxes and motivates people to spend millions of dollars to counter the millions of dollars from the unions to increase their taxes.

There are people who are destitute in Sweden as well. There used to be beggars outside every grocery store. On Drottninggatan there are destitute people shaking their cups every day.

Most of the Swedes I know here in the US are happy to live and work here, but also appreciate going back home to Sweden to visit family and friends.

How much time have you actually spent in the US? How much of your opinion is based on what you get from media?

Well…. The economic opportunities here in the US enabled me to retire comfortably at 51, so I have a fantastic life quality. I live near Adam in Reno, NV in the Sierra Nevada mountains. We have nearby skiing, boating on Lake Tahoe hiking etc. Looking at where I would have been had I stayed in Sweden, I have no regrets at all.

I moved from Sweden to the US 38 years ago and while I enjoy visiting Europe, I don’t see myself ever moving back. One of my main reasons for staying here are that the economic opportunities are far superior to those in Europe.

I wonder if there are statistics that would show if more people are moving from the US to Europe or vice versa?

If we are just discussing anecdotes on YouTube, there are some great ones by football fans visiting the US from Europe and discovering how great the US is.

Europe has some great features as well, whis is why I love visiting.

Before enacting another tax to fund additional socialist fraud schemes, take a moment and look around the world and see how wealth taxes have played out in other countries. In my native country of Sweden, it was such a disaster that they cancelled it. But the same story has played out in many countries…

If you are leveraging into this expensive house, how are you accounting for the interest? Most of the time, houses like this are not going to rent for anywhere near the interest expense.

In most cases, as the price goes up, the rent to value ratio goes down. A $9 million house renting for $40k/month is a 0.44% RTV, which is aboute crap for an investment property…
