Da-dah: our @oracycommission report is out: “Parents want it, the economy demands it, democracy needs it, teachers welcome it and our children deserve it … ” https://t.co/SFj3WgWfKI
Why has nobody ever mentioned this book to me?? I hear Stephen King's On Writing recommended all the time (rightfully), but never this, and it's blowing my mind! Like having a brilliant writing tutor in the palm of your hands
First Campus Visit this academic year! The Schools Team welcomed Year 12 students from @GreyCourtTweets to Campus today! Hope you all enjoyed the day despite the rain ☔️🐻❄️

This morning I’m reading about vocabulary challenges in GCSE exams.
I wrote this on ‘Why teaching academic vocabulary matters’:

Nice little resource for students to help them understand command words in questions. Command words are the words and phrases used in exams and other assessment tasks that tell students how they should answer the question.

Author copies are here, and ALLUSION IN DETECTIVE FICTION: SHAKESPEARE, THE BIBLE AND DOROTHY L. SAYERS is now published. Huzzah! This book has been years in the making, and I'm terribly pleased that it's out in the world. Here are a few pics and some of the ideas from the book
I've had a lot of visitors - and many reach out online - asking what our department do for our weekly Reading Lesson in English @TrinityAcademyL.
We have a co-curricular reading programme, with a booklet each term that complements the concepts we teach in our main units. /1
My latest article for @NEUnion Educate magazine is about the amazing impact that a Year 10 work experience student had on my class when she spoke to them about her love of reading. It made me realise how powerful peer recommendations across the key stages can be.

In partnership with @Literacy_Trust, I've done a virtual version of my FOOTBALL READING GAME for the men's Euros. It's free. For the classroom or the home. It promotes reading through #EURO24.
Please use and pass it on.

The BBC Dramatisation of LOTR was my 'wardrobe' into Middle-earth. Plus I was born on a Saturday night in the Spring of 1981, and my Dad listened every Sunday, so it may be my first literature experience!
Here is a thread of the lovely artwork by Eric Fraser, for the Radio Times.
Here we go @Team_English1 , a bunch of new paper 2 resources for the final 4 days. Including:

We have the cover for my next book, and I must admit I'm rather cheered by it. ALLUSION IN DETECTIVE FICTION: SHAKESPEARE, THE BIBLE AND DOROTHY L. SAYERS is due out with Palgrave in July.
