It’s hilarious, but not surprising, that the reductionist epistemic conditions of establishment science over the past 50 years are immediately reflected in prevailing AI-for-Science narratives. The postwar "algorithm to truth" project did not yield, so it has simply taken on a new form via notions of purely automated science, LLMs solving science, and so forth.

Reforming institutions was never going to be enough if we were simply going to take dogmatic, reductionist conceptions of science and place them elsewhere.

The culture of science must be addressed, scientific methodology itself must be reconsidered, we must dig beyond the surface.
