M-PESA WAS NEVER KENYAN: How Boris Nikolic Delivered Safaricom’s Cash Cow Straight to Jeffrey Epstein’s Network

On January 6, 2010, Boris Nikolic - Bill Gates’ chief scientific advisor and one of Jeffrey Epstein’s most trusted bridges into the Gates Foundation - sent Epstein a direct follow-up email offering to introduce him to Nick Hughes, the Vodafone executive credited with “inventing” M-Pesa.

The email is explicit. Nikolic attaches a document highlighting mPESA on page 77, describes how the mobile banking system started and is spreading across Africa and beyond, and then writes:
“If you are interested in meeting I know Nick Hughes (the guy that invented and run mPESA) very well.”

This was not casual networking. This was Epstein’s inner circle actively inserting the pedophile into the command layer of Kenya’s most important financial innovation.

M-Pesa, launched in 2007 by Safaricom (Vodafone’s Kenyan subsidiary), revolutionized mobile money and now moves roughly 50% of Kenya’s GDP. The official story is that Nick Hughes and his team at Vodafone dreamed it up. But for years, persistent rumors in Kenyan tech circles have claimed the core idea was stolen from a local Kenyan innovator who innocently pitched a similar concept to Safaricom, only to be sidelined while the multinational ran with it.

The timing of Nikolic’s email is damning. By early 2010, M-Pesa was already exploding across Kenya and being eyed for replication in India, South Africa, and beyond. Epstein, fresh from his sweetheart deal and still operating freely, was being handed direct access to the man running the system that would soon control the financial lives of millions of Kenyans.

This is how Epstein’s constellation worked: Gates provided the philanthropic cover and scientific legitimacy through Nikolic, Nikolic delivered the introductions and access, and Epstein positioned himself to monitor, influence, and ultimately profit from critical infrastructure in target countries.

Kenya’s entire digital economy - the one politicians love to brag about as “homegrown innovation” - was from the beginning wired into this network. Safaricom and Vodafone were never independent players. They became nodes in a larger machine that Epstein and Gates helped architect, where mobile money data, transaction flows, and financial behavior of ordinary Kenyans could be harvested and leveraged.

The fact that Nikolic, a scientist with no background in mobile telephony, was this close to the “inventor” of M-Pesa and casually offering him to Epstein proves the entire operation was coordinated at the highest levels of the global elite.

Uhuru Kenyatta and later William Ruto didn’t build Kenya’s fintech success. They inherited and expanded a system that was seeded and monitored by Epstein’s network from day one.

M-Pesa wasn’t a Kenyan miracle. It was a carefully placed asset in Epstein’s African portfolio - and every Kenyan who uses it today is still feeding that machine.
