It’s the end of an era. The end of something we may never see again. The golden age, the golden era, the peak of human history in terms of entertainment, patriotism, nobility, pride, depth, spirit, connectivity (not internet of things but actual human to human), etc.

I don’t know why I’m so affected by the news of her death, but it does feel like a chapter in human history is closing and closing fast, and soon (if we haven’t already), we are to begin the era of fakeness, superficial, surface, where nothing means anything and everything means nothing!

RIP Dolly Parton. My heart goes to her immediate family and loved ones.

You made my childhood something that now feels more human than what I see as music and growing up today.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Milnerton, Western Cape seeks public assistance in tracing a wanted suspect, 43-year-old Andrew Chickendary. A J165 was issued on 08 July 2020 at Cape Town Magistrate's Court for the suspect to be arrested and brought before court on a charge of murder.

I am bewildered, and not very impressed, by the visceral, naked, irrational hatred spat out by some defenders of Jason Arday. If a Cambridge professor is accused of being an unqualified charlatan, the accusation might be racially motivated. On the other hand it might not, depending on the evidence. The correct question to ask is not, ”What is the colour of his skin” but “Is it in fact true that he is an unqualified charlatan?” Please examine the evidence before leaping to the assumption of racism.
As for the idea that journalists “piled in on him” and “hounded him to his death”, most attacks were against Cambridge University. Jason himself was widely regarded as an unfortunate victim of foolish promotion way beyond his ability to cope. In appointing him to a professorship for which he was manifestly unqualified – in ludicrously describing him as “the best in the world” – certain senior members of the university showed a level of patronising condescension towards black people that could fairly be described as racism, while at the same time making him tragically vulnerable to such attacks as came his way.

I speak out a lot about antisemitism because I'm Jewish.

But just as I understand the importance of non-Jews speaking out about antisemitism, I understand the importance that I speak out about Islamophobia.

A recent article I read reminded me of that fact. 70% of Muslim women felt unsafe, some even choosing to forgo their hijabs.

And the comments were exactly the same as the ones when the subject is antisemitism. Versions of "they are overreacting," "they are hallucinating," "they are lying," and "we are the ones who should be afraid of them."

Hate crimes against Muslims are growing in the UK, and it's just as unacceptable as the rising antisemitism.

Nous perdons (partiellement) une femme brillante dont les interventions etaient toujours appréciées.
Je suis triste de la voir quitter notre sol, chaque juif qui part, c’est la France qui perd un peu de son âme.
Mais je ne peux que la comprendre, hélas.
