What's going on with Antarctic Sea Ice is even more extreme than the recent spike in North Atlantic Sea Surface Temperatures, this ice deficit is fully 4.1 SD's below the very recent 1991-2023 mean.

It hit 49C (120F) in Iran. Parts of India are 46C (115F). The Arabian Sea is practically boiling. This is all happening at just 1.3 degrees of warming.

After the chaos of the last 3 days (all because of one little graphic), this feels like a calm enough moment to say that the f&%kery going on in the oceans is Global and not just is the North Atlantic.

The North Atlantic anomaly is 3.55σ.
The Global ocean anomaly is 4.30σ.

While climate scientists have been talking about North Atlantic sea surface temperatures these last few days, what's going on with sea ice in Antarctica is even more extreme, nearly 2.4 million km² below the 1991-2020 mean, with a big jump down today.
