The project “Makkal Mandram,” aimed at improving conditions in a slum in the Chepauk constituency of Chennai, received the National Award for “Best Practices in Improving Conditions” from HUDCO (Housing and Urban Development Corporation), Government of India.

"Makkal Mandram" is an initiative under the Lifeline project, which is mentored and monitored by Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin @Udhaystalin in the Pumping Station slum of his constituency. This project has significantly improved living conditions in the slum, making a remarkable impact on the community. The award was presented on October 9th, World Habitat Day in the presence of Housing and Urban Affairs Minister of State, Tokhan Sahu, Shombi Sharp (Resident Coordinator of India, United Nations), Shrinivas R Katikithala (Secretary, MoHUA) and Sanjay Kulshrestha (CMD of HUDCO) at a event held at Vigyan Bhavan, Delhi

Our hearts are melting with joy to see the Elephant mother raising her trunk to thank our foresters after they rescued and united a very young baby elephant with the mother. The baby had slipped and fallen into a canal in Pollachi in Coimbatore District in Tamil Nadu. The Mother tried hard to rescue the baby but the young one was unable to come out due to strong water flow.
