Make sure the group's NPCs are always voicing their opinions instead of waiting to be asked. I have them offer the worst possible take 9/10 times, but once in a blue moon they'll suggest a savant-like reading of the situation that would solve the entire adventure immediately.

Warren at I Cast Light really succinctly sums up the problems with darkvision.

Which is why I say: Take darkvision out back and shoot it.

There's no darkvision in HIS MAJESTY THE WORM. Dungeon threats are always threatening. Torches are always important.
