@jessica_sjsu I was surprised to learn how detailed the analytics are. Facebook Insights not only tracks likes, comments, shares, etc., it also has a People tab that provides visitor's demographic information. Twitter's Followers page shows the interests of followers.

@Bobbiknotts_ Prior to taking this class I didn't realize how important it is to listen and have a conversation with library patrons. I follow a few libraries and I think this tends to be a weak spot (at least in the libraries I follow).

@gaby_mlis I can see an advantage to "self-serve" hold shelves, users do not need to queue at the circulation desk. They can use self-checkout, which saves time. However, this does come with the disadvantage of a loss of privacy.

@Sonam_lib I whole heartedly agree. Not all data collection is bad. The collection of usage data allows libraries to make important collection decisions.

As noted by Breeding, in this week’s readings, libraries can maintain patron privacy by disassociating library items from users and anonymizing transactions so they cannot be linked back to a particular user. #INFO246w75

The Alameda County Library is using social media to connect with and start conversations with library patrons. Library users are encouraged to respond to a weekly prompt by submitting a story, photograph, or video. Participants are eligible for free books and prizes. #INFO246w621
