Lots are bought in cities by investment groups - some due to potential high rental or AirBnB income, but many are just held as rapidly appreciating assets. Even if empty.

@LeenaVanD Consider ear defenders, though they are bulky and draw attention. Or noise-reduction earplugs like Calmer or Loop. Even cheap gig earplugs for musicians dull noisy surroundings but allow you to hear someone near or directly addressing you.

Likely depends on the school, tho.
