the reason why soccer’s not a thing in america is because its entertainment payoff distribution has a mode near zero.
you can sit through 90 min & the modal outcome is nothing fucking happens. american sports solved this with guaranteed event frequency… e.g. baseball gives you a discrete resolution every ~30 sec, & american football every play. the floor is high even when the ceiling is low.
while soccer is a lottery ticket.. you occasionally get mexico/england, otherwise you get the snoozefest that was portugal vs spain.
It would genuinely be nice if we stopped with the whole "the European past was entirely gray and covered with mud" aesthetic, which is of course a moral judgment about our past and in the present justifies mass immigration as a way of adding colour to our otherwise drab lives.
contrarian "everything sucks now" braindead boomer slop
yeah hollywood films are often mid but Nolan is definitely not the problem (and im not even a huge fan of his)
The Prestige is fantastic, Interstellar is also very good.
Christopher Nolan is considered a great director today because cinema is terrible now.
Back when he first came out 20-25 years ago he was just another ok director. No one thought he was one of the best. He was just decent, among other decent and some much better directors.
There are two ways to rise in the world. Do good work. Or wait until things collapse and they will call you great.
Ghost of Tsushima plays like an enhanced Ubisoft game. Repetitive, yet polished. I am enjoying it but it certainly falls short of excellence.
Not in the same league as Sekiro.
@benjamincowen and you literally sat on the same livestreams with many of them as they shilled lol
we still remember your group show with InvestAnswers
@13yroldwithcc Moonlight? Really? Yes it has great acting and cinematography but the writing is mid. Nothing in the film felt even remotely authentic or compelling.
@Vanguard0x@ShitpostRock Forced opinion. The problem was it tried too hard to appeal to Star Wars/Marvel audiences
It sacrificed intelligent political drama for predictable large battle sequences and quirky one liners
GoT should have NEVER become that. Great series overall though despite the poor end.
@ModernWarzone@CouRageJD The writing on Stranger Things is way worse than Game of Thrones ever was.
GoT definitely worsened towards the end but at its peak it was excellent.
Stranger Things is just expensive slop like The Last of Us and Rings of Power.
@tszzl@BjarturTomas This is nonsense and I'm not even a huge Nolan fan.
"displaying zero skill for history or biography" The film is a stylish dramatization of the events, was anyone really expecting a textbook accurate historical biography ?
Overrated? Maybe, but terrible? No way.
Which one of these do you consider the best open world game of the past decade?
- The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
- The Witcher 3
- Cyberpunk
- Elden Ring
- Red Dead Redemption 2
My personal pick is RDR2, the strides it made in NPC interaction & immersion were crazy.
