🇺🇸 BREAKING: F-35 Program Costs Surge by $51 Billion

The total procurement cost of the U.S. F-35 program has reportedly jumped from $485.2 billion to $536.2 billion.

The increase includes $32 billion for aircraft and engine procurement and $19 billion for research and development.

Block 4 upgrades, the new AN/APG-85 radar, engine power and thermal management upgrades, spare parts, inflation and rising production costs are among the factors driving the increase.

With operating and support costs included, the F-35 program’s total lifetime cost is approaching $2 trillion.

Anna’s Archive, which describes itself as the world’s largest truly open library, is asking volunteers worldwide to scan and upload physical books before AI companies buy and destroy them for model training.

The appeal follows reports that some AI firms have purchased large quantities of books that were later discarded or destroyed after scanning.

According to Anna’s Archive, the issue intensified after Anthropic agreed to a $1.5 billion settlement in a copyright case involving a library of roughly 7 million pirated books.

The court found that training AI on books could still qualify as fair use, but obtaining those books through piracy violated authors’ rights.

That distinction pushed AI companies toward a different approach: buying physical books legally, scanning them for training data, and in some cases destroying the copies afterward.

The fear that physical books could disappear after being bought and scanned by AI companies has prompted Anna’s Archive to call on volunteers worldwide to digitize and upload them for preservation.

The Justice Department, together with @DEAHQ, today announced a $50 million settlement with Walmart to resolve allegations that Walmart pharmacies illegally filled thousands of invalid prescriptions for opioids and other controlled substances in violation of the Controlled Substances Act (CSA).
