@NickNelsonMN I don’t understand the value of not selling the streaming rights for a year if they can’t do anything else with it. Is Diamond giving them more money for it not to be available than they would to also purchase the streaming rights?
@DanaLitman @BenAlfveby Think Shohei Ohtani and Donovan Solano. There is generally no excess value in a 4 year $120m contract almost by definition. Teams can build that way but they are often worse for it.
@DanaLitman @BenAlfveby Anecdotally, and I would guess borne out by the data, the only way to make a true impact in free agency is to spend at the very top and very bottom. The most efficient use of money is to trade for and develop younger players and extend them long term.
@BenAlfveby @DanaLitman Let’s put this another way, Varland and Festa will make 2.25M in the next 3 years. Are you willing to bet almost $73M that Sonny Gray outperforms either? It’s even likely he will but not by that much.
That’s more risk than the Twins are ever going to take on a free agent SP.
@DanaLitman@TFTwins Because locking up a 34 year old starting pitcher for 3 years at a premium is an objectively bad move and one this front office will never make.
@DanaLitman@ndsiouxviking@TFTwins There is a world where Gray doesn’t have the best home run rate in the game and he’s just a good pitcher. There is also world where Desclafani makes some tweaks and is a good pitcher for a year.
@DanaLitman@ndsiouxviking@TFTwins Polanco, yes. Julien was better than him last year and I think you could argue Lee is better than him too. Gray is a little different but they were never going to pay him $25/year.
@DanaLitman@TFTwins Every plate appearance that Polanco would have gotten this year is one less that Julien, Kirilloff, or Lee would get. The Twins are a better team with those guys than they are with Polanco. Not significantly better, but better.
@HagemanParker Whatever special sauce they gave Pablo to + spin and boost whiff would be great. I don’t know if he’s got a year like 2021 but certainly seems like there is more there they can get at.
@RealDJVest @brim006 Looks like it was probably being rented out because they’ve done some cosmetic updates. Likely has to be ‘as is’ because of the roof/siding on that breezeway and whatever is going on in that basement. Probably $8k for a roof and $20k for hvac and you’re good.
@max829572 @hiimraul33 I’m not a HOF guardian or anything but he’s essentially going to need to be some combination of Adrian Beltre and Nelson Cruz to even stay on the ballot after the first year.
@mk_wazir@GuyDealership We’ve already seen companies leave markets and there will be more. This leaves consumers in a spot where they might not be able to find coverage, much less affordable coverage. If 2024 is another year of losses it will be bad for everyone.
@mk_wazir@GuyDealership Larger companies are dealing with unprofitable books of business and skyrocketing losses. All companies are trying not to reduce claims and customer service but can only do so for so long before they risk being downgraded financially which can be a death spiral.
