Amnesty International strongly condemns the attacks on @Zinasuzim students from Chinhoyi University, who were allegedly abducted and tortured after conducting student election campaigns on campus.
The two students, 23-year-old Marlvin Madanda and 21-year-old Lindon Zanga, were allegedly abducted yesterday and were later found today, reportedly dumped, beaten, and injured.
These attacks threaten not just freedoms of assembly, expression and association, but also the rights to education, non-discrimination, academic freedom, and participation in university public life.
We urge the authorities to thoroughly investigate these attacks and ensure that students are able to exercise their freedom of expression and peaceful assembly, and organize without fear of reprisals, intimidation, or torture.
#InCaseYouMissedIt: 2 Days of theatre, interactive dialogues, and information sharing, learning, and empowerment in #Luveve!🎭✨
Last week, our team was in Luveve, Bulawayo, where they partnered with Bambelela Arts Ensemble for two days filled with learning, captivating theatre performances, and thought-provoking community dialogues focusing on sexual and reproductive rights as well as obstetric fistula.
The community dialogues gathered a diverse group of participants, including adolescents, young people, community health workers, individuals with disabilities, community leaders, Amnesty International Zimbabwe's SRHR champions, and elderly men and women.
Community dialogues represent a critical element of Amnesty International Zimbabwe’s public information and education efforts under the "#EndObstetricFistula, #RestoreDignity" campaign.
This campaign aims to reshape cultural perceptions, confront societal taboos, and dismantle detrimental gender stereotypes that contribute to discrimination and stigma. Through community dialogues, the campaign endeavors to enhance understanding of sexual and reproductive health rights within local communities.
By disseminating accurate information, utilising theatre as a human rights education tool, and facilitating open discussions, the community dialogues aim to empower individuals to make informed decisions regarding their sexual and reproductive health. This knowledge is critical for fostering an environment that can effectively prevent obstetric fistula, a serious medical condition disproportionately affecting women and girls in underserved communities.
Together we can #EndObstetricFistula and #RestoreDignity 💪❤️🩹✨

President Donald Trump’s executive order to close RFA and VOA is extinguishing cherished connections with the outside world for millions of people in “closed” countries. In many cases, these media networks were the only such connection.
