we have been helping folks migrate off github actions all day.
the entire 7 hours of this outage, depot ci jobs haven't been impacted, it's our own engine, own plumbing, and much less dependence on github.
drop us a line at [email protected] and we'll help you migrate.
Depot is on Stripe Projects 🚀
We are living in a new world of how software gets built. Agents can drive more and more. Projects takes that even further by allowing them to acquire and provision services with a straightforward CLI.
So now your agent can get faster builds by using Projects to get going.
@tomhaerter@kylegalbraith Yup, you are right about latency. We don't store small files but normalized packfiles and indexes. On fetch we lean heavily into _throughput_ and do man,y many concurrent, coalesced reads to make it super fast. The other trick we can pull is precomputed packfiles :)
@p_reynolds@kylegalbraith 2/ Pruning is the trickiier bit. compaction doesn’t delete anything right away. We have a separate GC that cleans up the retained roots that are no longer need after a grace window. No reachability GC yet, though.
@p_reynolds@kylegalbraith 1/ Yuppers, but it’s more LSM-style than like git repack. On push we put the packs and an index layer to S3. then we have a background compaction that rolls those layers into a new base.
We don't need to load everything at once during compaction b/c it range reads the packs
Join Depot’s Advent of Code leaderboard to support STEM charities.
The top 5 will direct up to $7,500 to nonprofits doing real good.
And yes… @theo is on the leaderboard. He pledged another $1,000 if someone beats him. 🫣
Starts Dec 1. Come code for something that matters.

Big thanks to @depotdev for saying "we've got your back" when I ran out computing power to ship these builds 💯

In this technical post, Principal Software Engineer Chris Goller breaks down:
✅ How Go caching worked before
✅ What’s new in Go 1.24
✅ How to set up Depot Cache for Go (it’s ridiculously easy)
✅ Just how much faster your builds can get

🚀 Depot's #GitHub Actions Runners just got even faster on #macOS! 🚀
We’ve doubled disk I/O performance for Depot macOS Actions Runners—meaning faster builds and less wasted time.
How’d we do it? Read all about it here: https://t.co/gcUNccFPGN

Depot surpassed a big milestone: 1,000,000+ builds a week 🚀
It took 18 months of building Depot to hit 1M builds. It's wild to see us growing at this rate. Even wilder to see where we may end up in the next year.
Builds don't have to suck 👉 https://t.co/8MFFweNFgM
Depot Cache has landed 🚀
We're bringing the power of Depot to Bazel, Gradle, Turborepo, sccache, and Pants.
It's simple, remote caching speeds up builds. We've demonstrated this time and time again. First, making Docker image builds up to 40x faster. Next, making GitHub Actions cache up to 10x faster with zero config changes.
Now, we're making builds up to 20x faster for Bazel, Gradle, Turborepo, sccache, and Pants ⚡
It's automatically integrated into Depot GitHub Actions runners ✅
Want to use Depot Cache with a supported tool locally? Yeah, we support that ✅
Try it 100% free for your first month 👇
Depot is taking over the @Cloudflare booth! Today at AWS reInvent for 1 hour!
See us today from 11am to noon at Booth #532.
Ask some questions and get some Depot Swag!
It's pretty interesting to see how much performance difference zstd can make compared to gzip and how that impacts building Docker images.
This post is sparking a lot of conversation with folks 👉 https://t.co/0suFnIUdF9
We've been building 🚀
Now available: macOS runners on @depotdev

Happy 70th anniversary CERN 🎉
#OnThisDay 70 years ago, twelve European countries came together to establish what has become the world’s largest #ParticlePhysics laboratory, home to the #LHC, and where the #HiggsBoson was discovered 12 years ago.
In how many ways can you say #HappyBirthday?
In this video, representing our 24 Member States, CERN people share their birthday wishes in their native language.

With the help of our design and construction services, UT Austin revamped their charging and data collection deck control box for a downhole tool. This newly designed box was quickly created, documented, and assembled to allow for testing prior to deployment. #custom#deployment
Spicy take of the day: @depotdev should become the new @Docker Hub. Such a sweet product: fast container builds, OIDC, simple install, amazing GitHub Actions runners. Meanwhile, we're still waiting for DockerHub service keys to be a thing. 🫤
