Breaking news: the Event Horizon Telescope team unveils strong magnetic fields spiraling at the edge of Milky Way’s central black hole, Sagittarius A*. This new image suggests that strong magnetic fields may be common to all black holes.

Last night the LMT joined a global array of radio telescopes forming the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT), and a coordinated multi-wavelength campaign (including space telescopes) of monitoring SgrA*, the super-massive black hole in the center of the Milky Way.
I love Indian classical, Western classical, rock & roll, and various forms of world music. But the music I cherish the most? The sweet rhythmic sounds of a receiver getting ready for observations. We are prepping for EHT 2023 at the LMT. @ehtelescope@gtmlmt_oficial
@JokesAstro Proud to have done everything except AOL. And programmed with punch cards, Fortran, IDL. And plotted with SM, used pine, and used IRAF & AIPS with magnetic tapes. And ran 0.99 Linux kernel. Twas the fresh tech of the day, just as I am imbibing the tech of today. So there!
hello! are you a non-binary undergrad/grad/postdoc+ in STEM? are you looking for community? send me a DM and I’ll set you up in the International Society of Non-Binary Scientists slack, where you can meet hundreds of folks all across subfields!
@hfalcke @drannawatts In my presentations to the public, I actually use the Black Hole of Calcutta as the origin of the term. Apparently the prison was hellish - and not very many inmates made it out alive once sent there.
@desikanarayanan @chargedcurrent@ProfAnnikaPeter Strange to be dragged by twitterati into an obscure name spoofing thread! I had to track down the origin of the thread. Very amusing. @desikanarayanan - you might recall that I tried to recruit you to UMass for grad school
