JUST NOW: 47 of 55 pro-democracy activists arrested in Jan for taking part in "35+" LegCo primary last year charged for "subverting state power" under NSL. They were asked to report to police today and detained and denied bail and will appear tmr 3/1 after 11 am HKT.
Today 47 candidates in the Primaries are officially being charged by the NSL. The max sentence is life imprisonment.
CCP aims to eradicate the whole pro-democracy camp in HK. As a nominee in exile, I urge @JoeBiden and @ABlinken to react on this crackdown.

Looking at this and wondering if any of us fully realized then that July 11/12 2020 would emerge as perhaps the last time people could express their democratic will in Hong Kong. Those two days are emerging as proof that the NSL was designed to do so much more than end protests
Live: I'm covering the development of #HongKong '35+ arrests' on the ground today. Media cited sources that at least 30 opposition figures will be prosecuted under #NSL. Here outside western police station, we're waiting for @LesterShum - 2 banners here perfectly spell the irony.
Police charged 47 people with “conspiracy to commit subversion” for campaigning on a pledge to vote down the government’s budget during unofficial primary elections last year.
Based on the national security law’s strict bail threshold, they will likely remain detained for months
Early reporting from HK01 spells another dark day for Hong Kong. If correct, imagine those spared will be lesser known ppl who joined primary. Pro-BJ camp has said since arrests that we needed to wait and see who would be charged, so will likely spin this as a moderate action.
Breaking: @joshuawongcf – freedom activist in #Hongkong and columnist for @WELTAMSONNTAG – and 46 others will be charged on Monday 9:30am HK time under China’s National Security Law. We demand a fair trial.
Beijing shows its true colors: 47 Hong Kong democracy activists are charged with "subversion." Why? Because they organized an informal primary election to select the strongest pro-democracy candidates. In other words, "subversion" is favoring democracy. https://t.co/DEKPrcgERC
