腐女子というものは、実に不思議な生き物である。彼女たちは、己とは何の血縁も利害もない二人の男の幸福を、まるで遠い親戚の婚礼を見る老猫のような目で見守っている。原作にその片割れが少し登場しただけで「生きていた」と泣き、二人が同じ画面に収まれば「同じ空気を吸った」と震える。会話を交わせばそれは記念日、肩が触れたなら祝祭、目が合ったなら建国、名前を呼んだなら天地創造である。

人間というものは、普通、自分の幸福にすら鈍い。

飯を食い、眠り、金を稼ぎ、愚痴をこぼしながら、己の人生を雑に扱う。

ところが腐女子は違う。

自分とは無関係の誰かの幸福に、己の情熱を注ぎ込むのである。

これは単なる妄想ではない。

むしろ、原作という硬い岩盤の隙間から、わずかに滲み出る水滴を見つける、静かな修行に近い。

「あの台詞はなぜ彼に向けられたのか」

「あの沈黙には何が含まれていたのか」

「あの別れ際の視線は、友情だけで片づけてよいのか」

普通の読者が読み飛ばす一瞬に、彼女たちは人生を読む。

作者が意図したかどうかなど、もはや些細な問題である。

なぜなら物語とは、作者が書いた瞬間に作者だけのものではなくなるからだ。

読者の心に入った時点で、そこに別の命が宿る。

そして、もし原作が彼らを幸せにしないなら、彼女たちは筆を取る。

「ならば、せめて私が幸せにしてやる」

この一念である。

報われぬ者に朝食を食べさせ、戦場で別れた者を同じ部屋に帰らせ、言えなかった言葉を言わせ、抱きしめられなかった腕を伸ばさせる。

公式が描かなかった幸福を、自分の時間と睡眠と精神を削って補完する。

まことに恐ろしい愛である。

しかも彼女たちは、ただ妄想するだけでは終わらぬ。

円盤を買い、グッズを買い、コラボカフェに行き、アクリルスタンドを並べ、ぬいを連れて旅に出る。推しの存在証明のためなら、財布の紐など最初から存在しなかったかのように開く。

しかし、あれは搾取されているだけではない。

彼女たちは札束を叩きつけながら、こう叫んでいるのである。

「この子たちを生かせ」

「この関係性を軽んじるな」

「我々は見ているぞ」

「ここに需要があるぞ」

これは祈りであり、投票であり、供物であり、圧である。

腐女子の凄さとは、恋愛脳などという浅い言葉では到底足りぬ。

彼女たちは、存在しないかもしれない幸福を信じ、存在してほしい関係性に名を与え、誰にも頼まれていないのに物語の隙間へ灯をともす者たちである。

他人の幸福を願うことは、簡単なようでいて難しい。

ましてや、それが自分には手の届かぬ紙の上、画面の向こう、原作の余白にいる者たちであればなおさらだ。

だが腐女子は願う。

彼らが笑ってほしい。

彼らが救われてほしい。

彼らが互いの隣で、もう少しだけ穏やかに息をしてほしい。

その願いが、二次創作となり、考察となり、課金となり、界隈となり、時に文化となる。

今という時代、アルゴリズムは大きな声と速い反応を好む。短く、強く、即座に感情を揺さぶるものを、獣のように嗅ぎ分けて人々の前に差し出す。

だが腐女子たちは、そんな獣の鼻をすり抜けて、静かに、しつこく、物語の奥へと潜っていく。

腐女子とは、妄想の民ではない。

報われなかった感情を、この世で一番しつこく弔い、かつ祝福する者たちである。

彼女たちは今日も原作の一コマを拡大し、台詞の余白を覗き込み、財布を握りしめながら言うのだ。

「大丈夫。公式がやらないなら、私が幸せにする」

その姿は、もはや読者ではない。

物語の外側に立つ、もう一人の神である。

彼女たちは、アルゴリズムが好む雷鳴の向こうで、静かに雨音を降らせ続けている。

その雨は、すぐに目立つものではない。

しかし、確実に誰かの心の土を潤し、いつか小さな花を咲かせる。
