The recent arrests and smear campaign have sent shockwaves through feminist and LGBTQ communities in Egypt, with social media accounts and online solidarity groups shutting down their accounts in fear of reprisal. Meanwhile the National Council of Women is not answering calls.
1/ We are devastated to hear about the death of #MercyBaguma. Mercy died as a result of a racist, barbaric immigration system that intentionally pushes people into extreme poverty, and then denies them access to food, healthcare and shelter.
