I've used it and I'm pretty sure that colleagues have appreciated it. Yes, works better when both are in same time zone - but a lot of colleagues are.

Family loved it, only downside was that the kids education did suffer a little.
However, they did pick up plenty of life, social, surfing and sailing skills.
