South Africa needs more independent investigative journalism.
Joe Emilio is currently raising funds for two new documentaries investigating the land grabs in Hermanus and Grabouw. He’s close to the finish line.
1,500 people donating just R100 each would fully fund the project.
If you can help, donate below. If not, please share.

Melt. Extract. Fuel. Repeat. 🚀
To build an affordable, sustainable presence on the Moon, we must learn to live off the land. Air Pioneer is a scalable, modular system that creates purified oxygen to reduce dependency on supplies from Earth. Using Moon-extracted oxygen for propellant, fuel cells, and breathing reduces our lunar landers’ load by many metric tons of mass. Launching less mass from Earth lowers the cost of our Moon base, fueling a future cislunar economy. 🌕
Pleased to share my favorite high-resolution capture of the Artemis II launch- the moment the SLS is clearing the tower, captured by a sound-triggered camera placed near the pad.
I'll have prints linked in my bio for this one, and here's a short thread about how it was captured
So this is what the Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities will be supporting when attending this function.
Compulsory veiling (hijab) laws:
Women and girls over the age of nine must cover their hair and body in public, with non-compliance leading to penalties such as fines, imprisonment up to 10 years, flogging, travel bans, and restrictions on education or employment under the 2024 "Chastity and Hijab" law and related enforcement measures.
Age of criminal responsibility:
Girls are held criminally responsible from nine years while boys are held from 15 years, leading to unequal treatment in the justice system.
Marriage laws:
The minimum marriage age is 13 for girls (lower with court permission), requiring paternal or guardian approval regardless of age; men can marry up to four wives (polygamy), and temporary marriages (sigheh) are permitted for men, often lasting as short as minutes.
Divorce rights:
Men can initiate divorce unilaterally (talaq), while women have limited grounds and must often prove fault; upon divorce, women receive only a fraction of marital assets, with recent 2025 changes capping dowry enforcement at 14 gold coins to avoid imprisonment for non-paying husbands.
Child custody:
Mothers typically get custody of young children (boys up to age 2, girls up to age 7), but fathers gain automatic custody afterwards; women lose custody rights upon remarriage.
Inheritance laws:
Women inherit half the share of male relatives (e.g., daughters get half of what sons receive); widows receive only one-eighth of movable property if there are children, with real estate going to children or the deceased's parents.
Blood money (diyah):
Compensation for a woman's injury or death is half that of a man's, valued based on 100 camels annually; in some cases, women face harsher penalties for crimes like killing their children compared to men.
Testimony in court:
A woman's testimony is worth half that of a man's in certain cases, such as financial disputes or criminal matters.
Employment restrictions:
Husbands can prevent wives from working if deemed against family interests or dignity; women are barred from "dangerous or arduous" jobs; no laws ensure equal pay, prohibit gender discrimination in hiring, or protect against dismissal during pregnancy.
Travel and passport laws:
Husbands can deny wives passports or prevent travel abroad; unmarried women need a guardian's permission for passports.
Political participation:
Women are prohibited from becoming Supreme Leader, president, or judges; barred from the Assembly of Experts; and limited to parliamentary representation (about 5-6% of seats).
Lack of protection against violence:
No specific laws criminalise domestic violence, marital rape, or sexual harassment; women have no legal safeguards against such abuses.
In this report, I investigate the alleged financial links between Iran and the ANC, only to discover a severe lack of political party funding transparency on the part of the IEC. The time has come to demand more transparency on the sources of political party funding, as well as accuracy on each party's financial statements.

Piglet: What will 2026 bring us?
Pooh: 365 opportunities to touch a heart, to wipe a tear, to say “I love you”, to be kinder to those around us, to make people happy and to make a positive difference in someone else’s life.
Piglet: Then it sounds like 2026 will be better than the last year.
Pooh: Much better Piglet, but we must remember that we have to do our part to make it better. You see, we have the power to make the world a better place for everyone around us.
And as the two friends wandered through the Hundred Acre Woods on their way home, Piglet’s anxiety disappeared with the thought of a kinder world. He loved the idea that he could help make it better for everyone else… and while walking, he promised himself that he absolutely would.
They both made that promise that day… that 2026 would be better than the last year, filled with more love and kindness because they would make it so.
They would make it a better place for everyone around them.
And so will I.
Okay. Love you. Bye.

BREAKING: The ANC-led South African government has torn down Solidarity's banner exposing the government's many racist laws during the G20 summit.
Let's teach these Cold War fossils a lesson in how the truth gets out in the internet age.

🚨 ANC on the Brink: R85 Million Debt Seizes Luthuli House
@MYANC is in deep trouble. The Sheriff of the Court has already seized office furniture, computers, and kitchen appliances worth R140 000 from Luthuli House — but that’s just a drop in the bucket of the R85.5 million debt owed for 2019 election banners.
Bank accounts are frozen, and the courts have shut down all ANC appeals. If the debt isn’t settled, the sheriff could begin seizing entire buildings.
The Supreme Court of Appeal and Constitutional Court have shut down all ANC appeals — leaving the party unable to operate normally.
Voting for a party that can’t even pay its bills is practically signing up for chaos. The ANC’s mismanagement is now a literal threat to governance.

Dry casks are so safe that you can kiss one without being concerned about getting a meaningful dose of radiation.
That’s because thick slabs of concrete can block even the most radioactive stuff.
