Reasons why this drama is going to be a hit:

1. Authenticity: Many Chinese viewers love a good wartime romance with a realistic setting, historical accuracy, and a plot full of angst.

2. Acting? No problem at all. Based solely on the trailers, BTS clips, and other previews, Cheng Lei and Xu Ruohan have already nailed it. They are perfectly matched for their roles and perfectly suited to this time period. I MEAN THIS IS CHENG LEI we're talking about ! I couldn't ask for a more fitting Pingjun and Changxuan!

3. Chemistry? Do we even need to go there? Even the poster alone drew me in to find out who they were and I didn't know them at all beforehand! It sent me down a rabbit hole researching the drama and the novel. Their chemistry is off the charts! I'm serious when I say they look phenomenal together as a pair even more so than with their other co-stars. And this isn't me being biased, bc I genuinely had no idea who they were before seeing that poster.

4. The Plot: We have the story of a young, arrogant warlord who falls hard for an innocent, upright, and pretty girl. It's an arranged marriage, and we get to watch them navigate life as a married couple while facing tough challenges stemming from their social differences. They endure separation due to civil war, struggle with an uncertain relationship, and eventually reunite as a family. Along the way, they experience deep regret, painful situations, and ultimately, forgiveness.

5. The History: As I mentioned, Chinese audiences love a plot that expertly blends real history with strong performances. The realistic settings from the clothing and locations down to the smallest details, like how people behaved then versus now and their daily lifestyles really sell the immersion.

Nigerian Chinese translators are calling out the viral “Chinese girl” as a fr@ud 😳

- Ganiyat Ishola went viral after posting several videos of herself speaking Chinese. When asked how she learned the language, she said she taught herself by watching Chinese movies.

- Several Chinese translators are now claiming that she’s not speaking correct Chinese.

- According to them, while some of the words she uses are correct, they say nothing she says matches the translations she provides.

- One Chinese creator asked what language she was speaking, saying he understands several Chinese languages and doesn’t recognize any of what she’s speaking. He also pointed out that much of her pronunciation is incorrect.

- TikTok users have also reviewed her videos and claim that what she says does not match TikTok’s automatic translations, adding that the translated text often doesn’t make sense.

- Ganiyat has yet to respond to these allegations and continues to post content and grant interviews.
