If we MUST make time permanent, then split the baby. Move it 30 mins back this fall and leave it. That way everyone is pissed and the worst impacts of perm. ST or DT are mitigated. Is that a perfect compromise? Nope. But it’s better than winters of very dark mornings. End

Also, we tried permanent DST, not 100 years ago when more than 1/2 the country lived on a farm, 50 years ago when rural-urban was similar to now. We’ll have the same issues that doomed it then. 3 months of dark mornings till 9am will infuriate people, just like it did in ‘74.

Permanent Standard is stupid because in the summer we get 4:45 AM sunrises (and lose an hour of sun in the evening during the nicest time of the year).

I think it’s odd so many people think the near past is so different from today, that we’re immune from its lessons. We ignore history at our own peril, even for simple things. End
