I am deeply honoured to have received the 2025 Gusi Peace Prize, awarded for exemplary achievements towards championing Africa’s leadership in global climate action and sustainable development. It is a privilege to be counted among this year’s 17 laureates recognised from around the world.
The Gusi Peace Prize, often referred to as the “Asian Nobel Peace Prize” and awarded under Philippine Presidential Proclamation No. 1476, celebrates individuals advancing peace, justice and human progress across diverse fields. Being recognised in this way strengthens my conviction that climate action and sustainable development are now central pillars of global peace.
In my remarks, I highlighted that we cannot speak of peace in the 21st century without speaking of climate change. Meaningful climate action helps reduce the risks that drive conflict, supports fairer and more resilient economies, and offers young people a sense of shared purpose and possibility.
I accept this award with gratitude and humility, and dedicate it to my family, friends and colleagues who continue to walk this journey of climate action and climate justice with me.

Pleased to have hosted community climate champions Gacau Njoroge (Chair, Mazingira Sustainability Village) & William Waithaka. It is incredibly inspiring to see Kenya's youth not just waiting for change, but building it, integrating tree growing, the Ndakaini Half Marathon, and a planned Sustainability Centre into a community-led model that protects critical water towers like the Aberdares.
Their energy reminds us that the future of our environment rests in capable, innovative hands. My office remains integral in supporting youth-led initiatives such as these, because climate action is not a choice for their generation; it is the reality they will inherit and must sustain for those yet to come.

The Kenya Forest Service (KFS) today hosted the organizers of the Ndakaini Mazingira Half Marathon for their first planning meeting at KFS Headquarters, highlighting the role of sports as a catalyst for environmental conservation.
The organizers briefed the KFS team on conservation initiatives across Murang’a, Kiambu, and other counties within the Central Conservancy, noting that the marathon mobilizes resources and public support for forest restoration and protection of vital water catchments such as Ndakaini.
