Dreadful prognosis - but there’s no evidence it will change government action. After years of worsening extremes and temp records @rishisunak is striving to ease emissions policy not increase it. Shameful and utterly baffling.
It's long been a question: could all of humanity actually live within the Doughnut? Thanks to Hauke Schlesier et al it's just been quantified for the 1st time. And the answer is probably yes - if we transform to economies of sufficiency. Read more here: https://t.co/aZjcj1TQ0P
I don’t understand this. The UK has carbon budgets, which are set under the Climate Change Act 2008 & says it has plans & policies that will enable them to be met. If so, it is complying with its obligations. If not, it is acting contrary to the will of elected representatives.
If you know of any great initiatives, local or global, that aim to meet the needs of all people within the means of the living world, we'd love to hear - so we can inspire school students with many examples of action. To let us know, see thread below - and pls RT!

It’s especially important, when we head to the ballot box this year, that each of us considers climate and nature when we cast our votes. That’ll be my message on 12 March when I join @ChrisGPackham at Zero Hour’s campaign launch. https://t.co/uDI6Twm0VG

Our local farmers are a valued part of the local economy & community, producing food we need & helping to protect the environment. Today’s news re increases in funding for many levels of the new sustainable farming initiative are welcome in helping farmers achieve these outcomes:
Why is the choice posed always food versus Nature? People can’t eat grass, yet we have about 125,000 hectares under golf courses. Generally don’t eat horses, but we spare about 500,000 hectares to feed them. For scale, Birmingham is about 26,000 hectares.

Your UK water bills - 28% of your payments go on debt interest, in some areas. These companies were handed to private investors debt free. Now look at them. Angry? You should be. Excellent reporting by my colleague @sandralaville and colleagues https://t.co/JtQ1AO9vaN

The good: criteria published for the #30x30 commitment to protect 30% for nature by 2030.
The map rightly counts National Landscapes as areas with unfulfilled potential for #nature recovery.
“There is only one measure of success for Cop28: will it include a commitment to phase out fossil fuels or not,” said Al Gore.
"If it does include such a commitment it will be a smashing success; if it does not it will be a failure.”
