@shanselman One up you. This is my “VJ Rocks” team moment o as well as the ashes of VJ6 from when we had to destroy boxed copies after we lost the lawsuit with Sun.
@jonmasters “Only used a couple of times” absolutely does NOT describe my early iPhone experience and I bought one 7 days after initial launch. I want Vision Pro to succeed but needs to be more than just an awesome to way to watch movies for me to get one.
In case you ever wonder what the purpose of business cards are in the year 2024, turns out they can be used in Europe to make sure the AC and electric outlets charging your laptop don’t turn off when you leave the room.
@Adman_NZ Much nerdier, but I also like a StreamDeck. Puts your common tasks on to real buttons. I have things like Mute Camera or Mic, Take Screenshot, Launch Zoom, Turn Lights On/Off, and then a pair of macros that launch/quit all my work apps (Email, Chrome, Slack etc).
@Adman_NZ How much are we talking? Biggest improvement to video quality on meetings is some kind of light - I like the Elgato Keylight Mini. It's only $100 plus you need some place to mount it.
Question for ex-Googlers. Has anyone found a replacement for gThanks at your new orgs? I loved the way it encouraged spontaneous and in-the-moment recognition.
Although Jack's post is about Kafka specifically, it's relevant to almost any cloud service. TL;DR is that Bring-Your-Own-Cloud approach sounds tempting but has serious limitations.
BYOC is something I’ve been thinking about recently so I decided to write down the thoughts I have on it and where I think cloud services are going in general.

Love @elgato CamLink 4k for connecting my digital camera to my Mac. But have to turn off hand gestures in macOS Sonoma because triggering a gesture causes video to freeze.
Classic. Landed half an hour an early and gave it all back sitting on the tarmac waiting for who knows what. Question now is will we even be on time when all is said and done.
Favorite part of my job is that I get to showcase the amazing work done by @confluentinc eng team. Loved showing the new Data Portal and AI Assistant in the #Current23 opening keynote. Big steps forward for Kafka devs.
