🙌 Hellbender Repatriation Milestone Reached 🎉
After 10 years and the release of 1,900 three-year-old captive-bred animals from both the Columbus and Toledo Zoo, successful reproduction in the wild has been documented.
This is one of the better articles that captures just how much we don't know about the effects of this disaster, and I'm not saying that just because I was quoted about impacts to #hellbenders. @EEOB_OSU
bwaamp-bwaamp....gunk-gunk....whaamp-whaamp... hard to make up words in English that accurately mimic the call of the noble green frog. This one was recorded last night...I like the blink after the first call. Gray treefrogs calling in the background. northeast Ohio.
A celebration of life will be held 12-3PM June 9, 2021 at the Coe Lake Pavilion, Berea, OH for Ralph A. Pfingsten. Join us if you can. I was so lucky to get to run around the state chasing salamanders with Ralph for several years. He was a mentor, a collaborator, and friend.
🐢 Did you find a turtle that seems injured? Old injuries that have healed, including a missing limb, eye, or previously cracked shell, are commonly observed in wild turtles and are not a sufficient reason for 'rescuing' a turtle. 📌 https://t.co/Ed03TtMcTA #wildohio
This GORGEOUS #salamander is 1111. We marked her in 2011 @ 60mm SVL. She’d have been at least 6 yrs old. We’ve recaptured her 34 times over past decade & she’s conservatively 17 yrs old & now 80mm. We’re learning that Plethodon can live a long time. @UGAWarnell@HerpetologyUga
The outdoors always offer new learnings! ☀️ Juniors in the Small Animal Care program, collaborated with The Ohio State University biologists as a part of work-based learning. They had fun being a part of a project to determine the status of freshwater turtles. 🐢 #PentaPride
@yanokwa Another reason to love ODK: People like @yanokwa so willing to help. I'm a prolific user of ESRI, but there's no limitations on who can be a part of your project with ODK. I've begun expanding my data collection with community collaborators: high schools, soil and water district,
@RD_Denton@NatureNoah@amphibs@scaleyhan I'm looking forward to The Wonderful World of Unis poster, each labeled with their genotype and locality. Coming soon?
@amphibs@scaleyhan@RD_Denton Agree w @RD_Denton about that shovel-like head. Looks very J, but what do I know? Totally geeking out over the uni pics, though.
