Effectively directing your smartphone use?
Together with great @lorenz_spreen & @frederikRiedel, we tested @one_sec_app's effectiveness to help control your app consumption, now published in @PNASNews!
For a quick guide through the paper see @lorenz_spreen's thread summary:
Very happy to share our latest work published today in @PNASNews!
Led by @GruningJ and working with @frederikRiedel, we tested how the self-nudging app @one_sec_app changes people's app usage in a field-experiment, and focused on the mechanism in a lab-experiment. Short thread:
I am thrilled to announce that together with @susafiedler we got the funding to move theory specification in social psych forward as part of @meta_rep . We are offering a position in the project - please apply and spread the word. https://t.co/bJdhHBwwzO
A bit more context on the new group (website follows soon): We will aim to understand how increased connectivity and online environments, specifically algorithmic curation and network structures, affect public discourse and political behaviour, as well as cultural evolution. 1/4
I am excited to start my research group "Computational Social Science" at the Center Synergy of Systems (https://t.co/2zjLPpbjEl) with @DirkBrockmann and the Center for Interdisciplinary Digital Sciences at TU Dresden, beginning this fall! I will be hiring, job ads below👇
Very excited to finally share our preprint after three years in the making! With @rubenarslan @AnaSKozyreva @Briony_Swire@michael_geers_@stefanmherzog and Ralph Hertwig @arc_mpib, we assessed the motives of very active users for posting content. (1/x)

I know it's the end of semester and all of us are super busy!
In case you're interested interested in the messy states of concepts, constructs, & measures, @GruningJ & I have an unconference at online #SIPS2024, where we seek to compile a reading list on this topic
I talk more about LGB ostracism and our studies' findings in a reel (in 🇩🇪)

Just a little reminder that the deadline to apply for the post-doc position in social psychology in Landau is closing on Sunday (May 26). Come and join us at Landau! ☺️
How effective can @one_sec_app be after one year of using it?
Our new publication at the @acm_chi conference on Hawaii shows:

It turns out to be a great companion to keep social media usage balanced long-term – not just as a quick digital detox fix.
I, myself, have been using one sec nonstop since I created it in 2020 and I couldn't live without it – and we see many happy users who are reporting the same.
I’m super thrilled to continue working on the app!
But not only that: we were also able to replicate our results from last year’s PNAS publication which showed a reduction of app usage by 57%.
@LukeHaliburton, Nađa, @albrechtschmidt, @GruningJ: Thanks a lot for the great collaboration 🥰🥰
As always, data has only been collected from users who gave their consent. By default, all data remains offline and on-device.
