PGP joined government, industry and development partners at the Grain Industry Development Stakeholders Workshop hosted by @ecdc_developec in Mthatha, focusing on grain production in Mpondoland, Eastern Cape.
The key issue raised: farmers don’t only need production support, they need storage, market access, and better ways to secure value after harvest.
That is where the real pressure points are in the system.
A significant milestone for members of the PGP Driefontein Study Group in Mpumalanga.
Collectively, these subsistence farmers planted 26.50 hectares of maize during the 2025/2026 production season and are now harvesting their crop.

Growth opportunities start with access.
Through PGP's partnership with Land Bank, farmers in our Farmer Development Programme in KwaZulu-Natal learned more about agricultural financing, funding opportunities and the requirements for accessing finance.
Connecting farmers with the right partners is key to unlocking growth. 🌱

Farming success is not measured only by what is harvested. It is also measured by how much value is protected from the field to the silo.
At PGP, we believe farmer development means equipping farmers with knowledge that supports profitability throughout the entire farming journey.

PGP presented its farmer development programme and roadmap to the North West MEC of Agriculture and Rural Development, Madoda Sambatha, following the department’s interest in collaborating to expand impact in the province.
Led by Grain SA Vice Chairperson Jeremia Mathebula, alongside PGP leadership, board members and stakeholders including NWK, the engagement highlighted the importance of partnerships in developing sustainable grain producers. 🌱
PGP Study Group meetings are under way across various regions, covering practical topics including sprayer calibration, soya production, harvesting, storage, grading, budgeting and safe chemical use.
These sessions are more than training, they are building stronger, more informed and commercially sustainable farmers. Through continuous learning and knowledge sharing, PGP continues driving its goal of empowering farmers with the skills needed for long-term agricultural success.
Today marked the conclusion of the final rounds of the 2026 PGP Farmer of the Year Competition evaluations across Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal, Northwest and the Free State.
This competition celebrates farmers whose work continues to strengthen agriculture and food security in South Africa.
Thank you to @Bayer4Crops for their continued support in empowering farmers and driving real impact. 🚜🌱

PGP farmer Mlotshwa planted 40ha of maize with support from SACTA, with BEFAP recently conducting yield estimation research on the crop.
A mid-summer drought during tasselling affected production, with yields now estimated at around 5 tons for the season. This is why farmer support, research and climate resilience matter.
Thank you to SACTA for making this possible. 🌱
