@NoelDickover @EvaIsAdorable @NiemanLabFuego What’s needed is a context-sensitive approach and meaningful engagement with those who know the consequences of speech like this in real-life and are working on these issues themselves. Anyway, thanks for looping me in Noel and nice being in touch Eva!
@NoelDickover @EvaIsAdorable @NiemanLabFuego with a focus on South Sudan (and supported a group focused on this in Myanmar) at PeaceTech Lab. I think the problem is that Facebook has the impression that they can solve this with more technology, more advanced algorithms, lexicons, and throwing its own people at the problem.
Excellent article by @cbajo on violent extremism and social media in Africa. Thank you @cbajo for reaching out, I’m honored to have been included, and so glad to see you featured the #notanothernigerian initiative supported by @1977Creative
En #Africa las redes sociales se encuentran ante una encrucijada: ser un instrumento de radicalización en manos de grupos extremistas o ser una herramienta de convivencia en manos de iniciativas comunitarias y actores cívicos ⬇️⬇️

Protests around the world this year have been amazingly creative.
Today in Chile an orchestra performed “El pueblo unido, jamás será vencido!" ("The people united will never be defeated")
The song was written in 1973, right before the coup by Pinochet.

Love this piece dedicated to Toni Morrison from @usip - Toni Morrison and The Brilliant Art of Peace https://t.co/puZEl73S3Y. “The power of this alternative language does not arise from the tiresome, wasteful art of war, but, rather, from the demanding, brilliant art of peace.”
Had a great time last week joining in this @techsalon on tech to improve governance and civic engagement with @ianschuler from @developmentseed, Jerry Sam from @penplusbytes and Saki Kumagai from @WorldBank. Excellent writeup by our fabulous host @CatMeurn. Thanks for having us!
@phat_controller@3r1nG@geoplace@Anandstweets@andresI4D@Becky_Faith @Anna_Colom Hi Tony - I formerly worked w/PeaceTech and helped start their hate speech monitoring in social media. Also worked for a social media analytics company so can share about technologies and realtime monitoring/analysis. I’d second reaching out to @howtobuildup and @PeaceTechLab too
So proud to have participated in this project with @1977Creative and #CreativeDevLab empowering civil society leaders in Iraq to share event reports surrounding the 2018 elections using @Ushahidi
See how Iraqi civil society groups used @ushahidi to rapidly and securely share critical information surrounding the 2018 election. Thanks to our partners @USAIDMiddleEast@DAIGlobal and Ushahidi! #peacetech#CreativeDevLab

Fantastic workshop by Juan Fernando and Marta of @pasocolombia on designing rural settlements in conflict-affected zones of Colombia to promote peace, economic well-being, and environmental protection. Thanks for leading and hope to work with you! @1977Creative#BuildPeace2018
What a wonderful opportunity to hear from @1977Creative representatives discussing Mobile Money for Displaced Persons. So relatable to @EnCompass_World's landscape analysis of mobile and digital technology that enable women's self help groups.
#buildpeace18
So honored and delighted to have been selected to join for #BuildPeace18 and lead a workshop with my colleague Paul on how mobile money can support displaced communities. Looking forward to all of the great talks! #creativedevlab@1977Creative@howtobuildpeace
