The Pakistani military establishment has long abused Islam as a tool to suppress the democratic rights of the people of Pakistan and has misled them for years. The same military committed genocide against the people of Bangladesh in 1971 and tried to justify its actions in the name of religion. In the end, however, it was forced to surrender, proving that the Almighty was not on its side.

Unfortunately, some bigots in Bangladesh—whom we refer to as the descendants of the Razakars (collaborators of the Pakistani army)—are still influenced by this misguided narrative and continue to act against the interests of Bangladesh.

Pakistan does matter but mostly as a Major NoN-NATO ally with much forgiven. At least some of the Pakistan-based US/Brit media has always had ‘clientitis’. Nothing new. Remember the CNN guy in quivering voice announcing ‘19 Indian airbases were hit’? Much of Reuters/Bloomberg coverage is ISPR stenography. Think of the big, breathless JF-17 “sales.” Poynter, Reuters Instt, Nieman should be researching and documenting this, but won’t.
Pakistan’s most effective “godi media” is Anglo-American. Munir fan club, not questioning and even quietly applauding his spectacular capture of the system...
