BREAKING: Iran has again launched multiple anti ship cruise missiles toward U.S. Navy escorted vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, with explosions reported across the waterway.
The U.S. has so far not responded to any of the latest attacks, despite repeated Iranian launches toward vessels operating under U.S. Navy escort. More than 4 to 5 attacks have reportedly occurred in the last 36 hours, according UKMTO.
@citrinowicz : The Strait is not truly “open” simply because tankers are still getting through. If vessels remain exposed to Iranian attacks, and if insurance and transportation costs are dramatically higher, then this is not a return to normal maritime traffic.
Oil Is Flowing. That Doesn’t Mean Hormuz Is Open.
Simply counting how many barrels of oil are moving through the Strait of Hormuz misses the deeper problem.
The Strait is not truly “open” simply because tankers are still getting through. If shipping companies have to pay captains extraordinary premiums to make the transit, if vessels remain exposed to Iranian attacks and harassment, and if insurance and transportation costs are dramatically higher than they were before February 28, then this is not a return to normal maritime traffic.
Oil moving through the Strait is not the same thing as the Strait being open. The real measure is whether commercial shipping can operate safely, predictably, and at something close to normal cost. Until that happens, the Hormuz problem has not been solved.

@JohnOBrennan2 : Rumen Radev has done everything possible to protect Russia since coming to office in the Spring. His thanks is to have the Russians openly attacking vessels in Bulgarian EEZ. His attempt to ‘both sides’ this incident is risible.

BREAKING: A public statement by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs indicates that the vessel “MT On Peace” (IMO: 9893204) was struck by Iran earlier this morning while attempting to transit along the Omani Route.
This strike resulted in the injury of 12 crew members, 11 of which were Indian nationals.
In just the last 8 days, there have been FOURTEEN vessels hit by Iran attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz.
But even more concerning than just the sheer number of vessels hit (which is the highest rate of the entire war) is the severity of the strikes themselves.
Multiple vessels now have been completely disabled, set ablaze, blacked out, or resulted in crew member injuries.
It is not just the NUMBER of vessels that matters, but also the SEVERITY of the strikes from Iran that should have everyone reassessing the viability of the Omani Route, even in the short term.

NEW: Latvia says its armed forces have stopped another attempt to push illegal migrants from Belarus across the Latvia–Belarus border but this time, the provocation was particularly overt and aggressive.
At least 20 migrants were involved, accompanied by masked escorts who were armed, threatened Latvian soldiers and actively pushed and directed the group toward Latvia.
Latvian forces halted the attempted crossing and prevented the group from entering the country.
Latvia says the incident confirms that deliberate provocations and hybrid threats along its border with Belarus continue, with illegal migration being used as a tool to pressure Latvia’s border and the wider external borders of the EU and NATO.
The Latvian National Armed Forces say they will continue supporting the State Border Guard along the Latvia–Belarus and Latvia–Russia borders to respond to illegal migration, provocations and other hybrid threats.
The presence of armed escorts directly threatening Latvian soldiers marks a particularly serious escalation.
