curious, if i use ai to assist me in coming up with a novel new solution that makes datacentres produce no negative environmental effects, does this become an acceptable use of ai? would you encourage me to use it for this purpose?

@growing_daniel meh, it kinda depends. people who can derive solutions to difficult programming puzzles generally have a pretty good grasp of fundamental dsa, and thus lends itself better to complex problem solving. tons of great engineers i knew in hft were competitive programming geniuses

@andresliiza @cheese_cakee_9 its fine for things like leetcode but once you work on something bigger, it introduces ambiguity. using namespace std brings all std names into scope, so if some header you added has its own size() function or you write your own distance(), they can conflict and break!

@Hans57152854 ive dabbled with it, but not with too much success. i usually get caught up thinking about how to learn synergy features without hand assigning attributes, but it does sound interesting to revisit. what about you, doing anything interesting in the space?

Everyone once in awhile, I get a DM about career advice. If I did XXX, can I get into quant? If I went to NonTargetA, can I get into TargetB?

And my answer is always the same, a measured YES. If you have to ask me, your chances are already slim. You have to do something remarkable to get there.

And so did every single person who already work there. Getting into Stanford was their improbable. IMO was someone else’s.

You choose your own improbable.

@BilwarAmaan @sankalp_na63983 @nicholaschen__ @UWaterloo cant speak for other schools but waterloo has a really strong grind and competitive culture, lots of resources due to history (top companies are always on our boards), and the course options themselves are very good. got into quant pretty much off of class knowledge
