Patient-Driven Movement:
Free Patients. Free Physicians. Free Insurers. Constrain Regulators.
1⃣Patients control their earned or subsidized healthcare $ (free patients).
2⃣Physicians compete on an even playing field (free physicians).
3⃣ Insurers offer plans that Americans want (free insurers).
4⃣ Shift power from regulators to markets (constrain regulators).
This is a virtuous cycle: Americans benefit from lower prices, better care, and improved health; employers gain flexible and affordable healthcare options for workers; physicians, relieved from administrative complexities, focus on care delivery; national healthcare spending stabilizes; innovations in medicine, care delivery, and insurance design continuously improve quality and reduce costs; and sustainable political will flourishes, further shrinking the state’s roles and centering healthcare on patients.
The energy to sustain this virtuous cycle springs from the demand to access better and cheaper healthcare on the buy side and the desire to innovate and achieve returns on the sell side. By leaving most stakeholders deeply unsatisfied, the government-centered status quo fosters an opportunity for the patient-centered movement.
We must rise to the occasion and unleash American dynamism in healthcare for the benefit of all.

I managed to consolidate and clean lots of data on procedure cost in hospitals for research. If you interested in collaborating, I would be happy to talk.@CMSGov#pricetransprency#hospitalcost#oshpd#reseach
@kdpsinghlab Timely study to understand the importance of external model validation before implementation. This is more true for #sepsis as we have small time window to follow effective treatment.
Important paper by @kdpsinghlab showing that Epic's sepsis model which is very widely used performs much less well than advertised, has a poor AUC of 0.63. My take--hospitals should be able to use local models, and ones that learn

Would you want to know if AI was being used as part of your care? Medical facilities are now leaning on #AI support tools to predict a number of factors. However, a recent @statnews examination revealed that patients are often not informed. https://t.co/I30mi6M0bX
13 years ago, I emailed Dr. Fauci out of the blue to ask if I might interview him for my undergrad thesis. He invited me to his office, where he answered all my questions. When I sent him the thesis, HE READ THE WHOLE THING (see his overly effusive review below). Who does that?!
Immigrants founded over half of $1B startups and they or their children founded 45 percent of Fortune 500 companies. These companies create jobs for Americans, not take jobs from Americans. https://t.co/V8jeTKpQO4 https://t.co/pO7mijnat8
A new study shows that the sepsis treatment in disproportionately minority hospitals is associate with significantly increased mortality. This study again enforces the need of data driven approaches to determine optimal sepsis treatment in hospitals. https://t.co/O9mg3JZvWb
