Lover of UK towns and villages, pubs, wildlife, architecture, transport, language, crosswords, people. Trade unionist. Stockport County fan. I'm fine otherwise.
#Liverpool and a wander up to Anfield including original Anfield seats out back the King Charles pub, tiny urinals in Turpins, a shop selling religious icons and a groovy fireplace in the Breckside, now the Flat Iron pub. Not a single hand pumped beer anywhere in Anfield...
Final #Blackpool selection. War of the worlds style lighting on West Street, the Winter Gardens home to NALGO conferences in the 1980s (when Britain did have talent), graffiti and plenty of lovely art deco touches around town.
Trip to #Blackpool before the clocks go back. Ride on the new(ish) tram line from Blackpool North; the Internet; in need of some work, and FUN. Great place Blackpool. Some real characters.
Trip to #Doncaster yesterday. A bit of train porn, the delightful Plough, Donny station ticket hall rather spoiled by the boxy lift, and t'cultural centre; library, art gallery and museum incorporating the staircase of the old girls' grammar school. All nicely done.
A long day of trains, cabs and a ferry but eventually at Vulcano. Sulphurous but imposing. Ferry terminals at Milazzo and Vulcano, mud baths at Vulcano...maybe tomorrow, and orgasmic trainers...
And today a bus trip to #Taormina Very touristy but you can see why. Greco-Roman amphitheatre, cable car, splendid beer and pizza by the seaside and extraordinary switch-back roads. Missing a pint of #Robinsons Unicorn though...
#Catania has a groovy underground system. A shame its long-closed Porto station is still shown on tourist maps...would have saved a long walk. I wouldn't recommend a trip to Monte Po unless you want to look at a Lidl car park and a dual carriageway...
#Catania is a massive city. Lucky enough to see the Santa Maria of the Onion procession and fireworks. Elephants, cactus fruits, fish market and umbrellas...
And so to #Sicily I thought it was expensive to get to the Isles of Scilly...must have misheard Gill. Anyway, some interesting days. Groovy bus shelter Reggio d'Calabria, ferry terminal there, a windy Mount Etna and the boys at Doctor Camper mending the van...Fri 13th....
