Today, I am recommending four essential works by Nelson S. Bond, the pulp-era storyteller and SFWA Author Emeritus whose wit and warmth lit up the Golden Age.

The Remarkable Exploits of Lancelot Biggs, Spaceman (1950): A collection of comic tales about a gangly, unlikely space-freighter officer whose screwball science gets his ship out of every jam.  Breezy, inventive fun that proves Golden Age SF could be genuinely funny.

The Priestess Who Rebelled (1939): In a ruined future ruled by women, young Meg undertakes a sacred pilgrimage to the fabled Place of the Gods, where she discovers a startling truth about humanity’s past.  A memorable post-apocalyptic tale with an unforgettable heroine and a clever reversal of gender roles.

Exiles of Time (1949): A mysterious bloodstone amulet transports archaeologist Lance Vidor from an ancient Arabian tomb to the lost continent of My, where he joins others summoned across the centuries to save Earth from a catastrophic comet.  Norse myth retold as pulp adventure, like Ragnarok on a countdown clock.

No Time Like the Future (1954): Bond’s most science-fictional collection, gathering his sharpest short work, including Conqueror’s Isle and The Cunning of the Beast.  A showcase of his gift for the twist ending, from sly comedy to genuinely unsettling.

Check out the quoted thread for the recommended works of Theodore Sturgeon, Alfred Bester, Bob Shaw, Clifford D. Simak, Algis Budrys, A.E. van Vogt, C.L. Moore, Cordwainer Smith, C.M. Kornbluth, D.G. We are sad to learn that filmmaker Peter Medak, who directed the 1980 horror classic The Changeling, has passed away at age 88.

Medak also directed Species II, along with episodes of Tales from the Crypt (The New Arrival), Masters of Horror (The Washingtonians), and Hannibal.

Devastating news. 💔

Dolores Huerta was the backbone of the American labor movement, and I hope history remembers her that way.

She co-founded the United Farm Workers, fought tirelessly for working people, and gave us the rallying cry “Sí, se puede!”

Rest in power, Dolores Huerta. 🕊️

I indeed rewatched this film last night & enjoyed the heck out of it. An amazing showcase for Walter Koenig & Nichelle Nichols. And Alan Ruck reprising his “Star Trek Generations” role as Captain John Harriman pretty much steals the show—really good! Recommended.

STARGATE FANS! Here's a question for you...

How are you feeling about the state of the franchise right now? Are you interested in Jac Schaeffer's version, or still a ride-or-die for Martin Gero's?

If Amazon gave you control of the IP, what would YOU do with it? Let us know ⤵️

Susan Saint James, the Emmy-winning actress who starred opposite Rock Hudson in “McMillan & Wife” and Jane Curtin in the CBS sitcom “Kate & Allie,” died Monday at 80 years old after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Saint James’ family described her as someone “generous with her time and energy, which she valued more than money, and instinctively drawn to whoever needed lifting up. She taught her children to pause, be kind and look out for other people. She never met a stranger. Every person she met became the most important person in the room at that moment, from a fellow board member to the clerk at the shoe store, who usually walked away knowing her entire life story.” (via People)
