Mr. President, as far as I understand as a resident of this region and a neighbor of Iran, Iranian civilization is not something that disappears with the rise and fall of powers. Over the centuries, from the invasion of Alexander to the Arab conquests and the campaigns of Genghis Khan, and later from Timur’s invasions to the arrival of the Seljuk Turks, and even in more recent times through pressures and interventions by Russia and Britain, many came believing they could break this deeply rooted civilization. Yet in the end, they either vanished themselves or were absorbed into it, and what remained was this very civilization.

Mr. President, the fundamental question is this: is your reckoning with a temporary clerical (Akhundi) regime, or with a civilization that has endured for centuries?

Those Akhunds who rule today are no exception; sooner or later, they too will meet the same fate as those before them.

This civilization is not confined to palaces and borders; it lives in poetry and thought, in history and art, and in the hearts of a people who have preserved it across generations. What is rooted in the soul of a nation cannot be destroyed by war, even with the most powerful bombs MOAB, nor erased by threats.
