@Dillonrel2121 I’ve noticed this throughout this class in many other religions too, people get caught up in the group dynamic of all being connected by something & sometimes don’t realize exactly what they’re practicing in moral & ethical ways #REL2121S18

i find the Moral Majority to be a shocking group considering their very extreme beliefs & very specific targets & that they wanted to include this in politics & media & the fact that they were able to gain so many followers is even more shocking #REL2121S18

@BrookeBt17e I believe this as well because this is one of the first religions in class that we’ve seen to be accepting & open to races & genders of all types. #REL2121S18

Once the media said Cleaver converted to conservative Evangelicalism, white Americans became extremely supportive when before he was harassed by the FBI & gov. I think that this is because he was then able to be used to their advantage during the communism scare #REL2121S18

The media often spreads info that may not be fully correct like when Satanic religions were arising, there were claims that there were subliminal Satanic messages in preschools &molestation yet there wasnt hard evidence, this can be due to fear of something unfamiliar #REL2121S18

@francescafuent I agree because everyone is entitled to their own beliefs & religions & by labeling it as something that it may not be or that the people involved may not want it to be referred to as, it becomes offensive #REL2121S18

@aja_yayreligion in my opinion i think it was because in the past our leaders & security were less equipped to handle the fear considering they were more unfamiliar with both foreign people & countries #REL2121S18

@JordanStowers2 This is also confusing to me since they were practicing similar if not the same general religion as African Americans & Christians are told they’re all “Gods children” so it doesn’t make sense to discriminate against others practicing that same belief #REL2121S18

In the 1950s most Americans had a huge fear of communism so a common tactic used to prevent “race mixing” & equality of races was using that fear to their own advantage & claiming that “race mixing” was a form of communism as well as calling MLK Jr. a communist #REL2121S18

The fact that Carnegie believed people should share their wealth in a way that would benefit the community yet didn’t believe in charity is controversial & bias in my opinion since the people charity goes to are the ones that need the shared wealth the most #REL2121S18

@mmm16ah I also found the evolution of nature religion interesting since it started with nature being separate from humans but ended with the concept nature & humans being one #REL2121S18

It’s interesting that as Isaac Mayer guided the Jews away from the original traditions & rules of Judaism, the larger the Jewish community grew in America #REL2121S18

The tension between Muslims& Americans didn’t start bc of 9/11 but in the 1700s when Islamics enslaved Christian Americans starting war with Barbary Pirates& since then Muslims have been scapegoats which I find unfair since Americans enslaved African people soon after #REL2121S18

@lcm16_lyllie I think they wanted to prove that they were prepared for whatever was thrown at them since the Pirates were used & paid to be almost like a “weapon” against the Americans #REL2121S18

@rjp17b People joined the Shakers because they felt connected to their way of life for a number of reasons including not being comfortable with their sexuality or wanting equality for men & women, now there are only 3 people left who carry on the culture #REL2121S18

The Shakers were able to grow as a community even though it wasn’t through passing it on to their children since sex was prohibited but there are now only 3 left today & they’re pretty famous so who’s willing to convert for the fame? #REL2121S18

@BrookeBt17e i also found this to be interesting since i didn’t know much about Franklin to begin with and feel it emphasizes what we learned on the first day of class about what religion really is, as in it doesn’t necessarily have to be one specific belief or follow any rules #REL2121S18

Benjamin Franklin grew up in a Puritan community but was introduced to many different beliefs and religions when he was working as a printer & became skeptical of it but still wrote he believed in God & afterlife in his creed before he died #funfact #REL2121S18

@sle17b I feel like that was definitely the wrong way to try & get people back to the church because people should want to be part of their religions community on their own rather than be scared/forced into it it just gives a bad impression of the religion #REL2121S18

When ur listening to Jonathan Edwards sermon “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God” but u already know the protestant way of life is coming to an end anyways #REL2121S18
