Could Trump's redirection of the question "Do you ask God for forgiveness?" somewhat support the idea that Trump only claimed to be Christian to get the Christian vote? #rel2121s18
It's almost funny to me that the Religious Right can wholeheartedly believe that the attacks of 9/11 were the fault of homosexuals, feminists, and abortionists. #REL2121S18
I think it is odd for Pentecostalism to move from having liberal beginnings to being segregated and hierarchical. Usually most things flow the opposite way: from segregated and hierarchical to liberal. #REL2121S18
@marygbrennan I think this is because of the more southern, segregated shift of the movement. They may have aligned themselves with the belief that women could not hold positions of power because their role was in the home. #REL2121S18
@JusticeKiziahC I think many different reasons led to this distrust of the government, but one of the main ones that is brought up alot, even to this day, is the Watergate scandal. #rel2121s18
@17_epb I think this reason may have a part in it, but I feel that one of the main reasons is because of most Americans wanting to be part of a religion to combat the anti-religion aspect of communism. #rel2121S18
@lauramesarel I agree. It makes sense that the parents wanted their children back, but I don't think deprogramming was the way to do this. I think deprogramming was just as harmful as brainwashing ended up being. #REL2121S18
@jakeknorrrr I agree! I also think that another thing that had a large effect on present day society was the development of the American identity. #REL2121S18
@linderc23 I guess they could be considered to be foils of each other due to the fact that the Shakers did not believe in sex at all and Mormons believed in polygamy, but they both thought their practices would help them in their spirituality. In this way they may not be foils. #REL2121S18
@jackwRel2121 I feel that I don't see this as much in society today. I see more of just criticism in general rather than the mutual criticism that was practiced to not just criticize but better one another in their relations within their community. #REL2121S18
@edfriedman4 Another symbol could also be the Statue of Liberty. I agree that the bald eagle and the American flag are also good symbols. Many different symbols, holidays, and traditions come together to define the "American religion". #REL2121S18
@marypreligion I think the Americans thought of themselves as God’s “chosen people” because of the large amount of opportunity and freedom that was set before them in a new land without religious persecution and a specific religious agenda.
