I was on a job selection panel for an elite coaching position last week.
Here's what I learnt from that experience to help you next time you apply for a #coaching role:
1. VISION - if you've been asked to share your "vision" with the selection panel - make sure you can SEE it clearly. Several applicants couldn't clearly articulate their #vision so they just showed 37 Power Point slides!
2. LEADERSHIP - I kept asking myself, "Would I - would this team - would this group of players want to be led by this applicant. What is it about them that would inspire the key people in this club to follow them". I saw some good people managers. There were some very insightful #coaches. But very few real leaders.
3. MAKE YOUR INTERVIEWERS FEEL SOMETHING. Several applicants were intelligent, experienced, knowledgeable and highly motivated, but it was all about "Presenting" rather than on connecting and engaging with the panel and inspiring us to feel something. So much of coaching is about making an emotional connection so if you can't do that with the interview panel, you're not going to get the chance to do that with the #players.
Next time you're applying for a coaching role - think VISION, LEADERSHIP AND FEEL!
