I got to watch Jananayagan.

I do want to share about the one thing that was most important to me and the cause that I stand for - safety for children from sexual abuse and swift action (I still wish coz what else do we have except hope?)

A star the stature of @actorvijay and now the Honble CM of Tamilnadu speaking about child sexual abuse in the film was crucial; Important.

Huge thanks to the director H Vinoth and to the Honble CM for that scene.

இரண்டு ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன் இதே நாளில் அறிமுகமான கொடி. அடர்சிவப்பு - மஞ்சள்- அடர்சிவப்பு நிறத்துடன் இரட்டைப் போர் யானைகள், வாகைப்பூ மற்றும் 28 நட்சத்திரங்களுடன் அரசியல் உலகை அதிர வைத்த கொடி.

தமிழக வெற்றிக் கழகத் தொண்டர்களின் உறுதி எனும் உயிர்க் கயிற்றில் உயர்ந்த கொடி அன்று. உலகத் தமிழர்களின் உள்ளங்களிலும் இல்லங்களிலும் உற்சாகத்துடன் உயர்ந்து பறக்கும் கொடி இன்று.

ஐந்தாண்டுகளுக்கு ஒருமுறை வரும் ஆட்சி மாற்றத்தை மட்டுமே நிகழ்த்திக் காட்டி இருக்கும் கொடி மட்டுமன்று இது, தன் படபடக்கும் பட்டொளி வீசிப் பறத்தலால், மக்களை ஆண்டாண்டுக் காலமாக வாட்டி வதைத்த லஞ்ச ஊழல் அழுக்குகளை அடித்து விரட்டிய அசாத்தியக் கொடி. ஒவ்வோர் உயிரின் கனவையும் சாத்தியமாக்கவே பறக்கும் நித்தியக் கொடி. உழைக்கும் வர்க்கத்தினரின் சத்தியக் கொடி.

ஆட்சி அதிகார அரசியலுக்கான கொடியாக மட்டும் அறிமுகமாகாமல் அகிலமெங்கும் ஆதிக்கம் செலுத்தும் தமிழர்களின் தொப்புள்கொடி உறவால் விண்முட்டப் பறக்கும் விஜயக் கொடி. வீரக் கொடி. வெற்றிக் கொடி. தொடர் வீர வரலாற்றுக் கொடி.

சீரிளமையுடன் திறன் வியக்கப் பறக்கட்டும் இக்கொடி. கூர்நுட்பத்துடன் உலகத் தமிழர் ஒவ்வொருவருக்கும் திசைகாட்டியாய்ச் சிறக்கட்டும் இக்கொடி. சிறகடிக்கட்டும் இக்கொடி என நெஞ்சார வாழ்த்துகின்றனர் எதிர்வரும் இளந்தலைமுறையினரும். இதயமார ஆசிர்வதிக்கின்றனர் இன்னும் பல்லாண்டு வாழத்துடிக்கும் எல்லாத் தலைமுறையினரும்.

எல்லோரும் ஒற்றைக் குரலில் உரக்கச் சொல்கின்றனர்.

இத் தரணி எங்கும் தமிழர் மானம் தழைக்கட்டும்.

As the debate goes on about the live telecast of Assembly proceedings, here’s something I want to share.

Though far away from home, watching the Assembly proceedings has somehow become a ritual at our home.

We set an alarm at 2 AM and another at 4 AM just to quickly skim through what happened that day. And at 6, when we usually wake up, the day begins with a discussion of who said what, what was announced, who made the best point and who got roasted.

We even have a WhatsApp group here among friends where we take attendance every night:

“மாண்புமிகு உறுப்பினர்களே… யாரெல்லாம் இன்று Assembly live பார்ப்பீர்கள் என்று confirm செய்யவும்.” 😂

And then the live commentary begins:

“அண்ணன் எழுந்துட்டாரு… பேசுறதுக்கு!”

“Aadhav on fire 🔥”

And when I call my parents back home, the conversation starts with,

“மாண்புமிகு என்னைப் பெற்ற தெய்வங்களே… இன்னைக்கு Assembly-ல என்ன நடந்தது?”

My dad will actually be waiting for my call so we can discuss the Assembly for the next 30 minutes while I’m driving to work. Ironically, he was one of the most critical people of TVK before the elections. Today, he has somehow turned into one of the biggest advocates of this government. His day practically revolves around the Assembly.

Sometimes my brother, who lives in another country, chimes in too, and used to be 10 min family call somehow turned into a full blown political conference call lasting hours.

Our family WhatsApp group has become busier than ever with memes, trolls and reels. Gone are the days when our calls were dominated by athai, chithi, mael veetu uncle, pinadi veetu paati and the latest family gossip.

Thanks to the live telecast, our family conversations now have an Assembly agenda.

And honestly, it makes us feel so much closer to home.

Who needs movies when the Assembly itself has daily episodes, characters, plot twists, comebacks and cliffhangers?

What a generational change this is.

The only real challenge is trying to watch everything, get enough sleep and somehow show up the next morning for a packed work schedule looking like a functioning human being.

But seri… parava illa.

2 AM alarm, 4 AM alarm, 6 AM political analysis, 8 AM office.

Sleep can wait. 😂
