What matters is whether the new thing reproduces "expression" from the original.

It baffles me how much this misunderstanding is regurgitated.

@simonw I don't understand everyone's hangup on clean room. A clean room is a sufficient condition to call something a non-derivative work. It's NOT a required condition. It's a just a technique to prove things.

What matters is whether LGPL code was reproduced or not.

@shanselman I'd recommend Immich on synology with the files but move all the compute (ocr, face recog etc.) to an Immich worker on your laptop or desktop.

Immich is very well designed IMO but external libraries experience still isn't the best.
