The system moved across the #Malay Peninsula and emerged over the South China Sea near #Terengganu and #Pahang... It is expected to move NE towards the #Spratly Islands... Cyclone 04B is in very rare territory. The storm is sitting over the Strait of Malacca at just below 5°N. Becoming a tropical storm, it’s only the second storm ever recorded over the Strait of Malacca, alongside VAMEI 2001. JTWC expects it to intensify further as it crosses northern Sumatra and emerges over the North Indian Ocean.

Tropical Cyclone #04B has formed in an unusual location - in the Strait of Malacca between Sumatra and the Malay Peninsula. According to IBTrACS, this is the first TC on record to form in this area. It has been causing major flooding in #Malaysia, #Indonesia, and #Thailand.
