@constatively #6010a2 Yes, the choice of technology we utilize for learning and communication does impact the message we are trying to convey. Take recorded lectures that enable students to go at their own pace versus direct lecture- those differences can influence differentiated instriction.
I am currently following Twitter on my wrist, my phone, and my laptop. It’s not...efficient. #6010a2
@VertigoRay @GennyMarieT “Hard” sciences are much easier to quantify and the outcomes are mostly consistent. But then, we’d be bored trying to figure out all this, right? #6010a2
@GennyMarieT @constatively It's not hard. It's impossible. What about other sociological, economical, or psychological influences that you neither control nor are aware of. You measure what you can and write about the *correlations* observed. #6010a2
@courtdlcftworth @AubreyRieder @atikah18070788 Very true. My daughter was excited that she answered everything right on a Kahoot last week, but I asked her to apply one of the concepts and she could not. #6010a1 #6010a2
@constatively @Gigemags11 @AubreyRieder @TDavisUNT @DavidSy28764093 In my experience, you get in as an "experimental pilot." Then, if you can show good results, they let you keep going. Then.....once others become interested, you suck them in :) #6010a2
@Gigemags11 @constatively @TDavisUNT @DavidSy28764093 @AubreyRieder Well......this is not my preferred medium. But I'm learning! #6010a2
@constatively @AubreyRieder @AmyMathGoodman @TDavisUNT @DavidSy28764093 I think this is a matter of "selling" the merits of PBL (introducing the concept slowly). I also think it is a matter of helping people to design curriculum for their subject matter. Often, people shy away from PBL because of the time commitment. #6010a2
@fil0s0fin @AubreyRieder It definitely can. I am struggling to keep up with out feed for the class right now because of cognitive load plus simple numbers. There are a LOT of people in this course. :) Many products and experience come from a “because we can” not a “because we should” perspective. #6010a2
@constatively @AubreyRieder @atikah18070788 This is true in lower elementary students. They do a lot of Kahoots & students are so interested in being the first to answer they don't pay attention to the question or the choices. It's all about who can answer first & not showing what you have laerned.#6010a1 #6010a2
@ROBODAVISWFISD @AubreyRieder I’ve sat in enough courses with people who "pull a Jeff Winger’ from the show Community who will argue garbage that doesn’t help the discussion after not doing the readings, that I prefer the more thoughtful responses. If someone trying to understand, it’s different. #6010a2
@courtdlcftworth @AubreyRieder @constatively The affordance of this level of connectivity sells the tech itself. It's on the educator or designer to use this technology to promote an impactful/intentional educational experience. We often blame technology without look at our errors in lesson or activity design first #6010a2
@CarolineKairu @constatively #6010a2: Message medium can be misread and miscommunicated. And also act as a distraction don’t you think
@CarolineKairu @constatively #6010a2 Really good point--I often have a hard time judging tone/meaning in text messages. Are the gains worth it when we lose so much?
Aubrey, I see your point. However, it is also challenging to keep up and make sense of the constant flow of information. Side conversations also occur that do not necessarily include everyone. #6010a2
@constatively This Twitter discussion is a great example of a positive impact. The conversation never has to stop. You're not waiting your turn to speak, and there are more opportunities to be challenged or challenge others. Tech is impacting how deep our conversations are going. #6010a2
@constatively #6010a2 When used correctly, technology can positively impact learning. When it's used just to be used, it can actually detract from the message. I've seen this a many times in online learning modules - adding bells & whistles that aren't needed & take away from the message.
@constatively Our brains are still wired for close conversations. Learning technology can lead to a need to process extraneous information on the part of the learner which bogs down the instruction. Taking advantage of the theories behind technology use can lead to positive results. #6010a2
The greatest difficulty with communication and technology is the lack of emotion that cannot be conveyed to the message recipient. I am neutral on the use of technology and communication because the availability for information is continuous but some are completely aware. #6010a2
Does the technology we use for learning communication impact the message/knowledge/information we seek to convey? If so, how? If not, why not? Do you see the major impacts of technologies as primarily positive, negative, or neutral? What is your evidence? #6010a2
