@CopyeditorSully We use AP w/ a site license so we can make a custom style guide right within the AP site. It also allows making notes on AP entries to call out prefs, clarifications, examples or exceptions. It's been SO helpful and SO much easier to use than a doc. #ACES2019 #notatACES
Seems to be some consensus that younger writers and editors are in favor of all numerals. A quick straw poll showed that there is still some debate over making an official change. #ACESReviseAPNumbers #ACES2019 @ona_usfsp
.@meperl sneaks in one last question: "When are you doing possessives?"
@PaulaFroke: *shudders*

#aces2019 @APStylebook Semi-serious suggestion during #ACESReviseAPNumbers: We could have the AP Stylebook and then the AP Stylebook for Numbers. [muttering from the crowd, some heads nodding why not]
"This is just a vent for me, so thank you for listening," @CarolPickyqueen says to laughter.
Honestly, we could probably justify turning this presentation into a group therapy session for traumatized editors. #ACESReviseAPNumbers #ACES2019
Our election official was playing both sides of the numeral debate when making notes on the straw poll. #ACES2019 #ACESReviseAPNumbers
A straw poll of the room shows that most people here are in favor of a dramatic switch in the style guide toward a very numeral-heavy style (24 votes) vs. keeping the entry the same (9 votes) or a middle-ground proposal (18). #ACESReviseAPNumbers #ACES2019
I gotta say that moving to using numerals almost all the time makes me itchy, but it might be smart. #ACESReviseAPNumbers #ACES2019
As usual, @MadamGrammar is singing my tune. On combing through "Ask the Editor" responses for rulings: "Do we not have limited time to edit?!" #ACESReviseAPNumbers #ACES2019
An audience member whose name I didn't catch: "Readers expect different things on different platforms."
Someone else: "So use a different style guide for those platforms."
@cnewvine: "No!!"

A minute ago @EditorMark said it's easier to typo numerals — easier to type "8" when you meant "9" than "eight" when you meant "nine." That's a good point, but also a risk we already run that risk with all numbers over 10, so it may not a big negative imo. #ACESReviseAPNumbers
One of the proposals @APStylebook is considering is switching to numerals in almost all cases. It would be a lot easier to remember and enforce, but it would be a big departure from past guidance and other style guides. #ACESReviseAPNumbers
Whether you have 1 idea or 10, help revise the AP Stylebook's numbers guidance is now in session. Tweet your questions #NotAtACES and I will try to make them known. #aces2019 #ACESReviseAPNumbers @ona_usfsp @copyeditors
AP's @PaulaFroke on the goal of revising the numbers entry. "The goal is not to make a statement." It's about finding what's most useful for the readers and easing the workload for editors. #ACESReviseAPNumbers
“This is the first time we’ve had an @APStylebook participatory workshop in real time.” - @cnewvine #ACESReviseAPNumbers #ACES2019
