They were very focused while OpenAI was distracted with Sora, voice etc 3. They launched Claude code which gave them unparalleled usage data at the time. Grok, OpenAI, google all lacked such data. 4. They are better managed with great people and less drama. Beats OpenAI, meta, grok. But once OpenAI decided to focus on coding, grok got their data by buying cursor, and Chinese labs figured out with equally great talents and cheaper access to usage data, they have been able to make similarly powerful models. It’s certainly a huge accomplishment for Anthropic to be this good, but the success comes from data and talent. If talent flows and more labs launched their application to subsidize users for access to usage data, then they can make faster progress as well. I’m expecting a lot of competition from this playbook. It’s a replicable playbook.
