We study the integration of #ALMPs and #SocialProtection policies with a focus of #LMIC. We take a historic view first, then a conceptual and empirical one, to shed light on the aspects that drive success on integrated approaches.
Policymakers must pay attention to younger and low-skilled workers, as well as those in heavily affected industries & regions. If the pandemic has caused a permanent, structural shift #ALMPs must be enacted to support the transition.

Some Northern European countries spend almost twice as much on #ALMPs. Generally, small open economies have stronger ALMPs and higher spending.
Well-designed and effective #ALMPs can contribute to shifting the Beveridge Curve back inwards. This would lower unemployment in a sustained manner.
While labour shortages have risen, wider unemployment remains a challenge. This is where #ALMPs should come in and also support discouraged workers and those who would like to work full time but are unable to get such jobs.
When are #ALMPs most effective?
The #BeveridgeCurve helps to determine how much unemployment is due to structural and how much is due to cyclical factors. How does it look in reality in Europe?
