Today, at the #UN Security Council's open debate on "practicing multilateralism, reforming and improving global governance", I spoke on behalf of the #AfricanGroup to stress the importance of strengthening international legal frameworks, enhancing accountability, reforming global governance including the Security Council and the International Financial Institutions, in addition to tackling new and emerging challenges in a swift responsive manner, with the @UN taking the lead.
The future of #multilateralism is at stake, and without immediate concrete actions, our future might be one of conflict, trade wars, pandemics and isolationism. This shouldn't be the way.

Honored to organize, in my capacity as Chair of the #AfricanGroup for February 2025, in collaboration with @AfricanUnionUN a side event entitled “#Africa’s priorities for #FfD4 to address the #development realities and aspirations of the Continent: a special focus on tackling debt challenges”, where ideas were exchanged on:
🔹Examining clear, actionable recommendations for both #African governments and the international community on how to better address the continent’s debt challenges while fostering an enabling environment for development.
🔹Tackle possible ways to accelerate reform of international financial architecture and debt restructuring mechanisms to create a more inclusive and sustainable global economic framework that serves the interests of African countries.
🔹Advocate for strengthened international solidarity and coordinated action to support Africa in meeting its sustainable development goals (#SDGs) amidst rising debt and economic volatility.
🔹Reviewing ongoing efforts and initiatives to advance discussions in this regard to better address the complexities of debt challenges in developing countries.
I thank the esteemed Panelists, Minister Ahmed Kouchouk, USG @Duarte_UNOSAA, ASG @NavidHanif_UN, Dr. @MMohieldin27 and Dr. Penelope Hawkins for their valuable and enriching insights and expertise.

At the #CSocD63, the #AfricanGroup welcomed the progress made towards the full implementation of the Copenhagen Declaration and Program of Action.
Was honored to deliver the #African statement at the #UN Commission on Social Development. While there is concern that 30 years after the World Summit for Social Development, progress has been uneven between and within countries, we are hopeful that the Second World Summit for Social Development would identify the gaps and recommit to the Copenhagen Declaration and its implementation.
The Group looks forward to the Summit to give momentum towards the implementation of the #Agenda2030 in line with the commitments to invest in people to end poverty, leave no one behind and strengthen trust and social cohesion. Poverty in all its forms and dimensions, including extreme #poverty, remains the greatest global challenge and its eradication is indispensable for the achievement of sustainable #development globally.

Honored to deliver remarks on behalf of the #AfricanGroup at the @UNECOSOC Coordination Segment panel entitles “Leveling the multilateral playing field: Financing and investment solutions for sustainable development in countries in special situations”, where I reaffirmed that the issue of IFFs remains a significant impediment to domestic resource mobilization in #Africa, which underlines the importance of drafting the Framework Convention on International Tax Cooperation.
On debt, I underscored that Africa’s external debt burden accounts for 22.4% of the continent's GDP, and that over 60% of #African countries spend more on debt servicing than on healthcare, with some allocating four times as much to debt repayment than to education and health combined, indicating that this undermines progress in critical sectors and deepens economic vulnerability.

Honored to deliver the #AfricanGroup statement at the @UNECOSOC Partnership Forum.
Africa is rich in human and natural resources, yet faces persistent challenges that require global solidarity and collaboration. Our priority areas reflect the need for partnerships to tackle key challenges and opportunities, including:
🔹Collaboration between governments, private sector and development partners is critical to scaling up primary healthcare delivery.
🔹Empowering women and leveraging partnerships to provide them with equal capabilities through education and capacity-building, in addition to equal access to resources and opportunities.
🔹Collaboration between governments, the private sector and international institutions to transform #Africa’s youth potential into a driver of innovation and inclusive economic growth.
🔹Calling on global partners to invest in infrastructure, technology transfer, and digitalization to unlock the full potential of Africa’s markets.
